I have a project which is very dear to me. I want to start an institute for health governance … It’s on health governance, universal health coverage… and will be instrumental in influencing dialogue.
Dr. Kenneth Jacobs has been a Member of Parliament of South Africa from 2019 to 2024, most recently serving as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health in the National Assembly of South Africa (2021 to 2024); as a member of the Joint Committee on South African Chapter of Global TB Caucus (2020 to 2024), as well as a member of the Portfolio Committee on Health (2019 to 2021). The NHI Bill was processed and adopted by this Committee and the National Assembly under the leadership of Dr Jacobs.
He has served as Consultant to the National Department of Health, as Secretariat of the Ministerial Task Team on District Clinical Specialists, as a District Clinical Specialist, as a lecturer and learning facilitator at University of Stellenbosch. He also served at SA Rugby Union as a medical doctor to national rugby teams.
Dr Jacobs also completed short courses at the Oliver Tambo School of Leadership: on Introduction to political Studies, History of the ANC, Building the ANC organization, Government, Economic Development, Development Economics, Tools of Analysis and Gender and women.
